Österreich hat den drittheißesten Juni der Messgeschichte hinter sich, in Westeuropa wurde laut Daten des EU-Klimabeobachtungsprogramms Copernicus sogar ein Allzeitrekord aufgestellt. Aufgrund des Klimawandels ist künftig noch häufiger mit extremen Hitze-Ereignissen zu rechnen.
